For Little Kings & Queens: Meet New Slow Fashion Label Reiet Reiets

In a society accustomed to immediacy, Reiet Reiets consciously takes a step back to honor the gradual process of beautiful design and production. Launched in late 2019, Reiet Reiets is a Barcelona-based slow fashion label for babies using the traditional hand-knitting techniques of Spanish artisans. The brand’s name is based on the common Catalan nickname for children, meaning “little king.”

Co-founders Patrizia and Luis fell in love with the idea of creating a baby clothing brand that embraced a reverse industrial revolution business model, where mass production and economies of scale are not the ultimate goal. Reiets’ ultimate objective is to create hand-knitted items that will last generations with the same love and care that their grandmothers used to put in their knitting for their families.

“We searched for places where there is a strong knitting tradition in Spain, one of those is in Cataluña (region where Barcelona is located),” said Patrizia, who studied fashion design and later economics in Milan. “We then searched for the best knitting products in this region and found the artisans that created them. Artisans usually work together, and they have a very strong community…We are intentionally slowing down fashion: all our items are made to order with love and care and all materials are purchased in small-batch, to minimize waste. Our product is intrinsically sustainable, but at the same time luxury.”

For the new summer collection, Reiet Reiets has added certified GOTS organic cotton for select styles, as well as versatile pieces for everyday wear, including bodysuits, dungarees and shorts. Most pieces use a blend of cotton and cashmere to ensure lasting quality. The standout for the season is their new Batlló floral dress made from soft organic cotton. Named after Casa Batlló, a stunning modernist building designed by architect Antoni Gaudí. Characterized by irregular oval windows and flowing sculpted stone work, this architecture is located in the beautiful Passeig de Gràcia in Barcelona and forms part of four modernist buildings, known as the Illa de la Discòrdia. Styles start at size 0 to 3 months up to size 9 to 12 months.

Reiet Reiets plans to add new summer separates in the coming months, and each made-to-order piece can take up to 15 working days to complete. To view the current collection and learn more about their slow fashion process, visit www.reietreiets.com.
