Q & A with Creative Director Jessica Vereecken:

JS: Why did you decide to create Tiny Imperfections?

JV: I have a son Cas, who has had a severe hearing loss since he was 2.5yr (very sudden deafness), and has an implant and a hearing aid. Cas is photogenic and models from time to time. However, I feel that the brands are afraid to show a child with a tiny imperfection in their campaign.

JS: Where did you get the inspiration for the story from?

JV: I wanted to create awareness about tiny imperfections in the kid’s fashion world. In adult fashion, you already see a lot of imperfections, like prostheses, wheelchairs, etc.  In the kid’s fashion, almost none, yet this is now changing slightly. We found five children with physical imperfections ranging from achondroplasia, leg prostheses, cerebral palsy, chromosomal dysfunction to hearing loss.

JS:  How did you select the clothing for the shoot?

JV:  Coralie selected the clothing and styled the shoot.  We wanted to as much as possible to only use Belgian Kids fashion brands such as Caroline Bosmans, Bo(y)smans, Aymara, Max&Lola and added Molo, Tarantella, Collegien.

JS: How successful has the project been to date?

JV: We are very happy so far with the response. The edit appeared in Knack Weekend 28/08 (a Belgian magazine) with five pictures and an interview. We want to reach a large audience, we have still a long battle to fight!
