Kids fashion from Playtime Paris, lightness was in the air at Playtime Paris with many brands featuring super thin and lightweight textiles for summer 2020.
It was a handy reminder of the excessive temperatures in the city over the weekend which demanded the lightest dressing possible, I am however happy to report that the new air conditioning at the kids trade fair worked perfectly thank goodness as the mercury on Saturday hit the high 30’s.
Possibly the un-airconditioned editions of the past few years in summer had affected attendance as the fair did seem pretty quiet this season but then summer is always a quieter season. It’s a shame as there are so many gorgeous items there.
Anecdotally reports noted there are fewer buyers but those that are there are placing bigger orders. Possibly a result of the move to online retail being dominated by a few large online retailers and many of the smaller local boutiques giving up or losing accounts through non payment of bills.
As always at Playtime Paris there were labels with beautiful kids collections, many more were mindful of sustainability issues this season reflecting current concerns and used organic or recycled fibres, plastics recycled for swimwear being a common theme and pure organic cotton and linen were favourite choices.
Seersucker has been a very popular choice in different weights while cheesecloth 70’s fabric is seen as a good solution for super hot days. Towelling comes a close third as a most popular novel fabric. The general feeling for girls is pretty in style and colour choices with ruffles and layered skirts or dresses, lots of tulle touches and crochet and lace trims.
I also made a quick visit to the Kidweek showroom, the separate independent trade show which has cool kids fashion brands based around the Rue De Turenne in a centre building and pop up showrooms in shops around the area so a couple of my Paris in the summer favourites are shown below from there also.

Another gorgeous collection at The New Society showing the seersucker textile so popular for summer 2020 kidswear

Lovely lightweight cotton jacket at Moun-Ten from Japan where all outerwear items have reflective trim

Pale blue chambray tones seems to be a favourite boys colour at the moment and I loved the hand finished punky shirts from The Park Shop at Kidweek
