Giving Back: Arkansas Children’s Hospital Festival of Stars Toy Drive

This post is sponsored by Arkansas Children’s Hospital. All thoughts and stories are my own.

This is Carter, my middle son, who drowned in an accident —

and miraculously came back to life.  Because of caring staff, nurses, and donations, we are lucky to have Carter with us today.

I’m more thankful than I can ever express. And I can’t keep that thankfulness to myself. Giving back to those who are less fortunate is a huge part of who I am. I know a lot of people say this, but for me, it’s different. I can see, feel and understand the struggle — especially around the holidays.

Up to the age of five, I was in foster homes.

I was tossed around from place to place, with no permanence. I didn’t feel like I had the security or love a home provides. I didn’t even have an attachement to a special toy. This all comes rushing back to me this time of year, and I know Christmas is such a hard time for so many others who struggle silently, unseen.

#ARFestivalofStars2018 lets me give back to the community

I’ve been through a lot — but people have also given me a lot. And that’s why I decided to partner with #ARFestivalofStars2018 this year, to be able to make a difference in other families lives. Today is #GivingTuesday.  We have not had a personal experience with Arkansas Children’s Hospital, but

my son drowned, died, and by the grace of God, is with us today.

Because of the love, dedication, and hard work of nurses, doctors, volunteers and yes, donations, our son had a fighting chance. They gave me everything, so whenever I can, I give back; not just because of my own background, but also because I want to teach my boys we are never promised tomorrow.  We must treasure today. and always bring light where we can.

Will you join me in bringing light — and monetary gifts — to other families this season?  Today, ALL donations will be matched (dollar for dollar – up to $10,000) by Hank’s Furniture. You can donate here.

Let’s donate toys to the Arkansas Children’s Festival of Stars Toy and Donation Drive!

Here is what you need to know :

+ You can drop off a toy at one of twelve ACH locations in Arkansas on Friday, December 14th

+ On Christmas Eve, ACH will give the toys to families of patients at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock. On Christmas Day, they’ll give toys to families of patients at Arkansas Children’s Northwest in Springdale.

+ Can’t make it to the drive? Cash and online donations will be used throughout the year to purchase needed comfort items, gift cards and gas cards for families.
